Congresswoman Stephanie Bice is a fourth generation Oklahoman, born and raised in Oklahoma’s Fifth Congressional District. She graduated from Oklahoma State University in 1995 with a degree in Marketing and International Business.
Prior to her election to Congress, Bice served in the Oklahoma State Senate for six years. During her tenure, she was Assistant Majority Floor Leader and Chair of the Senate Finance Committee.
Before her public service, Bice worked in the private sector for eight years in financial oversight, business strategy and marketing for her family's technology company. In addition, she ran her own marketing company, and later helped lead a boutique digital marketing agency as vice president of business development.
As a fourth-generation Oklahoman, I am proud to bring our home state values to the halls of Congress. As a Christian and a mother, I believe in the sanctity of human life and have consistently voted to protect the unborn. I believe the Constitution is clear in protecting the right to life and will work to ensure that taxpayer dollars aren’t used to fund abortion. I am also a gun owner and believe that the Second Amendment is a key freedom that is responsibly exercised by millions of law-abiding Americans. I will oppose radical efforts in Congress that would limit this important right.
As a fiscal conservative, I am deeply troubled by our nation’s ever growing debt burden. Washington should respect hardworking taxpayers and balance its budget just like the State of Oklahoma does. We must remember that debt today becomes tomorrow’s taxes. For the sake of our children and grandchildren we urgently need to bring fiscal restraint back to Washington. During my time in Congress, I will support efforts to bring greater transparency to federal spending and to root out waste, fraud, and abuse.
Our children are the future of this great nation, and it is important that we ensure the next generation of Americans have the tools needed to succeed in an increasingly competitive global community. For too long, the federal approach to education has been layering mandate after mandate upon states and schools. I support an approach to education that emphasizes local control of our education systems, as parents and local leaders have a better understanding of their children’s needs than does Washington.
Currently, the pandemic has forced many students into remote learning, which has proven to be academically ineffective and harmful to students’ mental health. With many private and charter schools conducting in-person learning, we must continue to work until all students are back in the classroom and are receiving hands-on experience. As your representative in Congress, I will support legislation that encourages in-person learning that addresses the needs of children across Oklahoma.
Domestic energy production is vital to our country’s economy and is truly a matter of national security. As a member of the House Energy Action Team (HEAT), I believe that Congress should enact a national strategy that ensures abundant, affordable energy for consumers, and creates more American jobs, all while reducing emissions. America has made significant progress in improving air and water quality and should continue to lead the world in environmental innovation. Oklahoma is home to an array of beautiful landscapes, including wide open plains, rushing rivers, and rolling hills, and I am committed to preserving these treasures for generations to come.
As a member of the House Armed Services Committee, the constitutional responsibility to “provide for the common defense” is a top priority of mine. This duty is more important now than ever as we face a range of serious threats around the globe. In order to safeguard our nation and our way of life, we must continuously strengthen our military and provide the very best for our troops. It is equally important that we continue providing for our nation's veterans when they return home from military service. During my time in Congress, I will focus on ensuring that those who have defended our nation have access to high-quality health care, education, and family support.
