This is Rep. Raskin’s third term serving on the House Judiciary Committee, the Committee on Oversight and Reform, and the Committee on House Administration. This is his second term serving on the Rules Committee and the Coronavirus Select Subcommittee. He was also renamed Chair of the Oversight Subcommittee on Civil Rights and Civil Liberties and Chair of the Rules Subcommittee on Expedited Procedures for the 117th Congress.
Climate change is not an “issue” but a civilizational emergency and the whole context within which we must decide every other issue. There can be no higher calling today than to reverse damage to our environment and protect our land, water, and air for future generations. I will fight with everything I have to save and continue policies addressing climate change and other threats to environmental sustainability. Given America’s scientific leadership and technological prowess, we should be leading international efforts to deal with rising sea levels, vanishing glaciers, record drought and forest fires, accelerating loss of species, and a brutal warming of the planet. I support initiatives to move us toward clean energy solutions and green jobs, greener infrastructure, and steady reduction of deadly carbon emissions. In Congress, I’m working with my colleagues and fellow members of the Congressional Safe Climate Caucus to push for progress on this intensifying civilizational emergency. In the 115th Congress, I’ve cosponsored dozens of bills, from the CLIMATE Act (H.R. 1812) to the FRAC Act (H.R. 2012), to advance strong commonsense solutions to combat the effects of climate change.
