Congressman Jim Baird is a lifelong resident of West Central Indiana. He proudly represents Indiana’s 4th Congressional District, which includes 16 counties, and serves on the House Committee on Agriculture and the House Committee on Science, Space, and Technology.
Before being elected to Congress, he served eight years as a State Representative in the Indiana General Assembly. During this time, he was a member of the Ways and Means Committee and played an integral role in balancing Indiana’s budget. This past year, of course, has been consumed by the COVID-19 pandemic and the economic fallout it brought. Congress acted swiftly with three critical pieces of legislation that I was happy to support; providing much-needed resources to frontline workers, American families and small businesses. While this early action was instrumental in lessening the impact to the economy, House leadership’s unfortunate unwillingness to negotiate additional stimulus in good faith has slowed economic recovery. Despite these stalled negotiations, I have continued to fight for targeted relief for the families and industries that need it most. Where legislative action has failed, I’ve worked to encourage administrative action, such as keeping meat packing facilities in our district open and President Trump’s executive order to provide additional unemployment insurance benefits to those laid off in response to the pandemic. As we move into a new Congress, I remain committed to pursuing targeted stimulus that will help our economy continue to rebound.
