Congressman Jimmy Panetta proudly serves California’s 20th Congressional District in the U.S. House of Representatives. His district includes Monterey and San Benito Counties, and parts of Santa Cruz and Santa Clara Counties. First elected 2016, he is serving in his third term in Congress. He currently serves on the House Committee on Ways and Means, the House Committee on Agriculture, and the House Committee on Armed Services. He also serves as a Chief Deputy Whip in the 117th Congress.
The central coast of California is home to more than a dozen military installations that teach foreign languages to our armed forces, research and develop cybersecurity and technology used on and off the battlefield, and educate and foster leadership skills of our men and women in uniform. As a former intelligence officer who served in Afghanistan, I experienced and understand how important those skills and qualities are to bolstering our national security.
As a member of the House Armed Services Committee, I work to maintain the military installations on the Central Coast, promote their educational training and technological innovation, and protect their nearly 15,000 good paying jobs that impact the economy of our communities and the safety of our country. I also work to ensure that our men and women in uniform have the tools, resources, and training they need to accomplish their mission and return home. Strong Congressional oversight – focused on smarter military spending, clearly defined authorizations for the use of military force, and care for our military families – is the best way for Congress to support our troops and keep our country safe.
