Andrew Boesenecker

I was born in Holland, MI, I grew up just a stone’s throw away from the shores of Lake Michigan. I was raised in a family that included public school employees, teachers, veterans and law enforcement officers. I am also proud of a family heritage that includes generations of farmers – people who know the importance of growing healthy food for their neighbors and community.I spent my childhood and teenage years sailing on Lake Michigan, exploring parks and forests, and riding my bike anywhere it would take me. One of those kids who couldn’t stop beating on pots and pans, I received my Bachelor of Music in Percussion Performance from Western Michigan University in 2001. I love playing drums and the marimba (and also the pots and pans) with my three children to this day.

LGBTQ Rights

Equal rights are not extra rights, and Colorado still has a long way to go in order to ensure that our great state is a welcoming, safe, and affirming place for LGBTQ people.

I am an ally and an advocate for LGBTQQIA rights.

I support Colorado’s ban on conversion therapy, as well as streamlining the process for changing gender markers and legal name. I support inclusivity training for healthcare providers and insurance companies, and the right of transgender people to access public restrooms and gender segregated facilities that correspond with gender identity. I support suicide prevention initiatives and recognize the need for more LGBTQQIA affirming mental health resources. I also support LGBTQQIA seniors – making sure they have access to long-term care and nursing facilities wherein each and every orientation and identity is treated with welcome, dignity, and respect.
